Firstly, ensure you always wear gloves and an apron when you’re cleaning a commode. Remove any seat cover from the commode and then, working from the top to the bottom clean all surfaces with warm water, neutral detergent and disposable cloths. If possible, remove the seat and clean any surfaces exposed by its removal. It is then advised that you turn your commode upside down to give yourself easier access to the underside and ensure that you’ve cleaned all surfaces thoroughly. You can then clean that side of the chair. Once this is complete, clean the seat cover and seat using the same solution and cloth/wipe. You now need to complete the above process a second time, this time using a diluted solution containing a disinfectant. Ensure you dispose of any wipes or cloths you used to clean the commode and pour away the cleaning solutions immediately upon completion. Please note, if you have a product that contains both a disinfectant and a detergent, you may only need to wipe down the commode once. Individual commode operation and cleaning may vary so always check the manufacturer's directions before use if uncertain.
