Around 1-6% of the general population is thought to be potentially sensitised to proteins found in natural rubber latex, although not everyone who is sensitised will develop symptoms. As part of an employer's duty of care, a risk assessment should be conducted prior to the use of latex gloves, and latex-free alternatives should be made available for those who require gloves but may have a latex allergy.
